The Best Time to Explore
There are a lot of activities that adults get to do to relax and talk to themselves. This could be driving in the car or spending time with others, even watching TV.
For me, the best time to talk to myself and engage my mind is while I am moving. I love going on adventures, especially with my kids and wife. However, there is a freeing feeling when there is an opportunity to do things that not a lot of people do.
Take a hike in the woods, in the dark. Be sure to go with a friend and take a weapon. I usually bring a four inch knife (you never know what you are going to find, or what will find you).
Take Time To Explore

The Things That Find You
A hike in the wilderness takes you to places that other things live. Most things are smaller than you but there are a some things that are bigger.
Even if they are not bigger, they can still be meaner. This is a picture of a mountain lion track that was found in the snow near a slow moving creek.
Mountain lions can be dangerous to humans. When hiking in the woods at night be sure to go with a buddy and bring a weapon.

Find a Long, Dark Bridge
Hiking trails during the day are well lit and easy to navigate. Exploring at night and seeing something in a dark light brings a quiet feeling to the experience.
Stopping on this bridge and listening to the water run underneath of it turn out to be quite a relaxing experience.
Get out and explore things in a different light. As the perspective changes, the experience becomes more meaningful and new insights can be gained.

A Natural Doorway
During the day, a trip on this path would be pretty normal, a couple of trees here some rocks over there a nice view every now and again.
A trail in the dark eliminates the view beyond and puts the focus on the things in front of you. It is important to have an overall look but sometimes, a determined focus on right now is what we need.
Prioritize your mental health and do something that is going to better you. That could be the thing that helps get your mind to a better place. For me, a long hike in the dark woods with a good friend opens up dark, twisted, tree branch doors.
