The Benefits to Kids Of Eating A Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is used to give you energy and maintain your metabolism throughout the day. More importantly, healthy foods provide a lot of benefits for kids, including better focus, improved memory, and fewer tantrums.

And if the goal is to find foods with a low glycemic index, then serve fewer processed foods. That will improve the odds that your child's blood sugar will hold steady until lunch.

We will discuss five benefits to a healthy breakfast

Before we dive into the five benefits, what is a healthy breakfast? The brain uses glucose to function. There are two types of glucose that we can put into our body, processed sugar and natural sugar. What foods give the benefit? Fruits, grains and vegetables are great options for a morning meal. These all include natural sugars. Sugar cereals, while they taste delicious, are not as beneficial to kids going to school.

The biggest reason why a healthy breakfast is important is the release of carbohydrates into the body. I know we were just talking about glucose. Well, glucose turns into carbohydrates. When we put processed sugars into our body, we get a spike in carbohydrates. That means for two hours or so, we are doing awesome. Brain is popping, firing on all cylinders, a sudden energy burst. After time is up, the spike in energy diminishes, leaving the brain low on energy.

With natural sugars, the glucose and carbohydrate science stretches out in our bodies, leaving our brains using fuel at a constant rate rather than burning all the fuel at once. A healthy breakfast lasts up to four to five hours compared to a sugar packed breakfast.

Now we have discussed why a healthy breakfast is important, let's get into...

The benefits for a healthy breakfast

Number one, the most obvious benefit is that it provides energy for your day and regulates metabolism throughout the day.

Next, kids are able to have better focus and improved memory when they start their day off with a healthy meal. This helps them perform better in school or other daily activities because they can concentrate on what needs to be done without forgetting important information or instructions.

Another great thing about eating healthy foods at breakfast is that children tend to eat less of these unhealthy snacks during the rest of the day which means healthier habits overall!

Next, kids who eat less snacks during the day to make up for a poor meal choice in the morning are less likely to eat junk food, which is a benefit to their body and weight. There have been arguments to suggest that kids' metabolism is so good that they don't need to worry about what they eat, they will grow into their bodies. Studies in recent years have shown that this is not only true but damaging to our society. Childhood obesity is on the rise in all US states. Know the facts on the food going into your children's mouth. Eating too much junk food puts unnecessary strain on their body and can lead to poor health outcomes later in life. So, getting rid of this habit at a young age helps young kids develop healthy habits early and that is a lifelong benefit.

Finally, a healthy breakfast curbs mood swings and irritability. As we discussed earlier, the balance of glucose and carbohydrate release allows a child's brain to stay focused longer, as long as they are eating a healthy meal. This helps them focus in school and have a better day. And those teachers will be thankful to you too!
