CHAPTER 3 – FRIENDS WILL COME TOMORROW
Charlie thought that was odd, he had met plenty of people, no one was surprised at that before. Then he rationalized that perhaps he has found some people that have never met the people he knows.
As he thought over the situation he started to head home where he would tell the story to Gary the Duck and Jerry the Jaguar and bring them back the next day to show them what he had found.
He found the same trickle he followed up and it turned to a stream and then to a river. He found the trail to the pond and was able to make it to his cabin just as the sky was turning dark. The sun had already set and the night was growing cold. However, he still wanted to tell Gary the Duck and Jerry the Jaguar what he had found. He called them over and Charlie recounted the peculiar events. Gary and Jerry were skeptical, “A mountain glacier hiding in the mountains sounded like a made up story,” Gary interrupts.
Charlie was convincing, however and they both agreed to join him tomorrow.
CHAPTER 4 - AH, NETS
The next morning came and they set off following Charlie to the river and then up to the stream, finally to the trickle. As they continued, Gary and Jerry were surprised to see that there was indeed a glacier with a hole in it made by a pick axe.
Charlie, Gary and Jerry, were very excited. They entered, not really sure which way to go as they stared into the dark. In their haste that didn’t pull out their flashlights prior to entering. As they pulled them out and turned them on, they were startled to find about 15 men standing around them.
Soon they found themselves covered in nets and ropes. They carried Charlie and his band on sticks upside down all tied up. As they were being moved through the cave passage, Charlie could see drawings on the walls but couldn’t make them out. They were moving too quickly and the light was bouncing on the walls, ceiling and floor as they walked.
Finally they came to a large, open, cavern with holes in the top that poured in light. There were lanterns on the walls evenly spaced, it seemed. Charlie and the others could see houses made of mud, rocks and sticks. Some were round, others rectangular and some were just leaned up against the wall.
Paths wound every which way and people were everywhere. The chatter was loud and the men carrying Charlie, Gary and Jerry announced a meeting.
They kept carrying the band of three and finally stopped in a large open area that seemed to be in the middle of the rock house town. Finally, the men set Charlie , Gary and Jerry down and a very large woman approached.
“How did you find this place,” she asked in a curious voice? Jerry almost commented on her frizzy hair and dirty teeth but held back. “I know you can talk, our scouts report they heard you speak,” she said as she stared at Charlie.
Charlie held his breath and was about to speak when Jerry spoke up. “Yes we can speak, all of us can speak. We have been speaking all our lives. I don’t understand why that is strange.” The large woman shuffled forward closer and closer as she was fixed on his mouth and how it moved. He began to talk quieter and quieter and then fell silent. “Hamuck, bring a sheep over,” the woman ordered curiously.
He arrived moments later with a sheep. “Please, ask this sheep what its favorite dish is,” she said with a sinister smile. Jerry did so, but the sheep just let out a, “Blahh,” in response.
