Minute Read

You Are Going To Fail

Your Failure could be a business start up, an important relationship or any number of other things. This is supposed to happen. However, we need failures.

When you have a failure under your belt, you have the ability to:

1) Share what not to do.

2) Not repeat it.

Sharing what you have learned is a right of passage.

Think about that. When you have the opportunity to enlighten a younger version of yourself and help them achieve where you failed, that is a success under your belt.

When a failure is experienced, it does not want to be repeated.

Failure should be the prod to success.

Analyze the Failure

It is okay to take a step back and analyze your failure. The most important part of failure is staring it in the face and telling it you will not give up. We need to know why we failed so we can change what went wrong and try again.

Learn the Lesson

The Lessons we Learn is where the change happens. Now that you know what doesn’t work, you can re-approach and come back with a different mind set. The mindset coming back to a problem needs to be such that you will be able to reason why it didn’t work the first time. This may be talking to a sounding board to help get over the hurdle.

Change Your Approach

In the Pixar Movie, Big Hero 6, the main character is told to “shake things up...look for a new angle” by his older brother while he is holding him upside down. What is the new approach? You have to come up with that. When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb he was a hero (many failures to get it right). When Nikola Tesla was to light The World Fair of 1893, he could not use a screw-in-socket type light bulb (Edison’s Design), so he invented a plug-in-socket type light bulb. This innovation led to his success in lighting The World Fair of 1893. Tesla's design was a new angle on an existing product.

Move Forward

It is interesting to see how things evolve. Often a success is two steps forward and the failure is one step back. If you have 10 steps, eventually you arrive. The sad reality is that most people give up before they get there. The most critical part of overcoming failure is not letting the failure overstep the success.

Find Your Support

Let your successes fuel you to overcome the next failure. We are all going to have challenges that are going to punish us. Find support and move forward. Support can come from a spouse and/or another relative, a friend or colleague, from an internet article or video and so many other sources. Whoever or whatever your support is, be sure that they have had a similar experience.

You Succeed When

You have succeeded when you can teach someone else how to overcome that specific challenge. You become the support for others. Make your challenges a learning experience that you can't wait to share.
