The Growing Poem

A little girl I know is growing much faster than expected.
Anticipation mounts to observe the course she will act in.
She has learned so much in very quick fashion,
Overcoming challenges has become her passion.

A problem is only a problem until it is solved.
Her mind looks for options, is seems it revolves.
There isn't a problem that this little one would face
That she won't overcome at her learning pace.

Be it learning to put on her size seven shoe,
Two arms and a head in a shirt was easy to do.
Both legs in the same leg hole, a bigger task to mount,
but this little girl, to the number thirteen can count.

ABC's, she knows them all in the familiar song.
She continues to grow and it won't be long
Until she has spread her wings to leave the nest and is gone
They grow up really quick and leave and are on their own.

Eighteen short years parents get to spend with a child.
We raise them right and hope there temper is mild.
We hope they develop some ambition or take on a cause.
Be greeted after a great performance with standing applause.

We hope for them to learn to do something new,
But we also pray that they are out of temptations view.
We, as parents, want our children to obtain success,
Even if we do not agree with the way they dress.

Instead of looking at what the future will do,
I have determined to live today for you.
I will help you plan your future one day at a time,
By teaching you how to develop your thinking mind

I want to see you succeed in everything you do,
But you have to learn how to put on your size 8 shoe.
I don't think you will find that hard, but calculus...
I will pay for the tutor to help you not flunk like your dad did and I also stopped rhyming cause come on "calculus," that is fun for none of us.

I am just a dad that wants his family to be happy but realizes that they have to choose to be happy and that is where I want to help give them opportunities to create memories they can use when they grow up.
