Ice and How We Use It
The idea of land migration has a theory in people coming across an ice bridge into Alaska and into the America's.
In the 1800's and 1900's ice was put in a box and used to keep food cool.
The use of ice in drinks is an archaic practice.
An entire genre of sports has been generated around ice from hockey to curling and ice climbing to skeleton.
Ice Skating Activities
Ice Skating Activities for preschoolers and kindergarteners can be simple and used to help them learn. Some simple activities could be:
1. Pushing a support around as they follow an adult.

2. Learning to play hockey and using a hockey stick on the ice.
3. Turning on music and letting them move to the beat.
4. Hold their hand and encourage them.
5. Sit on the ice all bundled and warm, and eat lunch or snack.
6. Get a cart and pull your young children in it.

Learning to Ice Skate
What you will need:
-An ice rink of frozen lake
-A good sense of balance!!
-Some ice skates
-A friend
Procedure:
1. Strap a comfortable pair of ice skates on at the edge of an ice rink or solidly frozen lake. Make sure they are tight but comfortable. A lot of the stability comes in the tightness around the ankle.
2. With the support of a friend, get to your feet.
3. Step onto the ice holding a support.
4. Waddle with the tips of your skate pointing away from each other at a 45 degree angle.
5. If balance is an issue, a learner may need something to hold onto for extended periods of time like a balance trainer. These can be rented, typically, at an ice rink facility or bought at most sporting goods stores. One place with good reviews that we found was PureHockey.com. We are not an affiliate and receive no commission on any sales with PureHockey.com.
Lessons to Be Learned:
-It is okay to fall!!
-Increased balance.
A Poem for an Ice Skating Adventure
A cold winter's snow is blowing from the east.
The lake bed is frozen, thick with ice, 9 inches deep.
The weather turned clear and the sun no longer hides.
An adventure awaits even though colds outside.

Let’s pack up the car and head to the lake.
We will pack some lunch to eat with hands, no plate.
All bundled and warm we can sit on the water,
Now a thick ice sheet to sit on with wife, son and daughter.
We brought the skates, time to put them on our feet,
We will play on the ice wrapped up warm in fleece.
Let’s spend time holding hands and balancing,
A frozen landscape provided by winters rationing
Stop and enjoy the warm sun shining on a cold day
To the middle of the lake, thick enough, we can go and lay
Enjoy the many frozen features of winter weather
The family that plays in the cold, gets frozen together.
