Spiders and Crickets and Scorpions, Oh My
Hiking is a great form of exercise and a even greater way to see what exists in the world around you. Usually when I go hiking I am looking at the valleys and mountains formed by the natures majestic power. Tonight was a little different. While hiking we found many wolf spiders, a lot of crickets and the surprise guest that I have never seen hiking near where I live, a scorpion.
Let's look through the pictures and you can see what we saw.
Spiders
I am not talking household spiders that are the size of a quarter at times. I am talKING SPIDERS! I have never seen them this big. Check it out.

Crickets
I love the sound of crickets. They are a rhythmic melody that let's you know it's time for bed. We heard a lot of them and only saw a few. Here is a picture of one.

Scorpion
I have never seen a scorpion in the Wasatch Front Mountain area. This was a treat. These aggressive prickly tailed critters are fast movers and love to be left alone. Here is the scorpion we saw.

Oh My
There is a lot to see outside, not just critters. Hiking during the day can get hot and tiring. Hiking at night can get tiring but it is not as hot usually. This makes for a great time to see the night lights of the city and see the critters that come out after most people are in bed. So get out there and explore your neighborhood, you never know what you are going to see. Here is the night lights.

Healthy Hiking
Hiking is the form of exercise that has a reward at the end. The opportunity to use your legs and breathe some fresher air is always a positive. Hiking is sweaty but the typical mountain breeze will help keep you cool, especially at night. If you need a good exercise with an instant reward, try hiking. Wear some sturdy shoes, grab some water and always use the buddy system.
