CHAPTER 5 – WHILE IN JAIL

A sheep that doesn’t talk, how unusual, Jerry thought. The big lady directed the men, "take them to the cages."

The cages were through a narrow corridor where it led to a large open area. Against the wall was a jail looking structure made of sticks and rope.

This would easily hold sheep but a jaguar would give it some trouble. Nonetheless, they didn’t argue or resist, yet. They had to come up with a plan for escape.

The room was lit by a hole in the ceiling with a stream of light creating a circle in the middle of the room. The “would-be-guards” latched the door and told them to enjoy their stay, with a disrespectful smirk. They walked away and one fat man, short, with no hair, sat in the room on the far side at a table. He, picking up some papers and shuffling through them, starting laughing to himself. Charlie, Jerry and Gary were in jail. The sheep was corralled next to them but separated by another stick wall. Quite thick but they could still see through it. They had to get out of here, but how?

They started lamenting their situation which culminated in an unnecessary angry jab at Charlie. Finally, Charlie, who had heard quite enough, started discussing his level of responsibility. He knew it was his fault but he was glad he was having this adventure with his two best friends. Fighting wasn't’ going to solve this but working together would.

Somewhat satisfied, Jerry and Gary apologized and they gave a big hug all around. By this time the guard had walked away. The sheep peaked through the fence cell wall and said, “Ah, how sweet. You are all friends again.”

Gasping the three turn to look and see the sheep talking. “You can talk,” they said in unison!

CHAPTER 6 - THE SOUND WE MAKE

Of course I can talk, these people don't need to know that though.  They are going to eat me anyway so there's no sense in giving them more reason to keep me locked up in here.

“What do you mean, eat you” Gary asked?

“We are food to humans,” the sheep continued.

“How do we get out of here,” Charlie says to his friends?

“There isn’t a way out” says the sheep.

“What is your name,” Gary asks the sheep?

“I am Cherrie the Sheep,” she responds.

“Alright, how do they not know you can talk? All I heard was you laughing when we talked in front of the people in the cavern.” asked Jerry, confused.

“That is my animal sound,” replied Cherrie.

“What is an animal sound,” asked Charlie.

“You are an animal,” said the sheep. “A piece of meat to these people. The only thing they won’t eat is each other, from what I can tell.

“The fat one that sat at the desk would be a perfect meal,” Jerry suggested.

Charlie, ignoring the comment from Jerry, asked, “how do I make the animal sound?”

“It isn’t The Animal Sound it is your specific animal sound. We each make our own sounds based on what we are. Where are you guys from, I am starting to think I am the weird one,” asked the sheep with a puzzled look?

The three looked at each other as Gary responded, “we live in the city, people are a lot nicer in the city.”

“Well, here we are all treated this way. They lock us up, kill us and eat us. But, you, Jaguar, they just kill you for the sport, don’t even eat you, just cut off your head and hang it on the wall,” the sheep said with a smile. “I, on the other hand, get stripped once a year. Those nights in April  are so cold at first.”

Charlie laughed with a “URH, URH, MURH.”

Gary looked at him, “ that is your laugh?! You sound like a crying elephant.”

Jerry, Gary and Sheep all laughed at this and they all heard and recognized their animal sounds. The guard was still not back and they seized the opportunity to come up with a plan.
